Nor do such supercilious responses as have been tossed out here. Solution: Ensure that you are a member of a group (such as the Administrators group) with the appropriate user rights before connecting to the shared folder. It's not "best practice" because you end up sharing c:\windows and all that.

This sounds to me like a hokey permissions issue which could be the result of a poor AD join. And then I had to wait for the new share rights to propagate across the network (or reboot both computers). I am well aware of assigning permissions and taking ownership but, while those might work in the loosened security of a "homegroup", the level of difficulty goes up significantly when one I have attempted five times and each time it fails.
